Phoenix Distribution is hiring for a Finance Manager who will be responsible for overseeing core financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and supporting compliance with statutory and audit requirements. This role provides financial leadership, ensures the integrity of financial data, and supports management through timely reporting and insights. The position requires advanced accounting knowledge, professional judgement, and the ability to manage multiple financial functions independently.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate cashbooks and ensure timely updates.
- Prepare and review journal entries in compliance with accounting standards.
- Manage monthly accounting processes, reconciliations, and reporting cycles.
- Maintain accounts up to Trial Balance, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Compile monthly management reports for Head Office.
- Prepare annual audit files and liaise directly with external auditors.
- Conduct financial reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with internal controls.
Compliance & Regulatory Requirements
- Perform VAT calculations and submissions in full compliance with SARS.
- Ensure financial processes adhere to IFRS principles and legislative standards.
- Monitor compliance with internal financial policies and controls.
Financial Operations Management
- Review and approve creditor reconciliations.
- Respond to operational finance queries with professional insight.
- Prepare and evaluate KBD reports and financial metrics.
- Manage insurance‑related financial processes, including claims.
- Provide financial updates and insights at weekly management meetings.
Systems & Administration
- Work proficiently within accounting/ERP systems (Sage, Pastel, SAP, or similar).
- Ensure accurate financial documentation, filing, and audit trail maintenance.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- A recognised finance or accounting degree (e.g., BCom Accounting, BCom Finance, or equivalent) — essential.
- A professional qualification or active registration advantageous (e.g., SAIPA, CIMA).
- Matric / Grade 12 (essential).
Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in a finance, accounting, or financial management role.
- Strong experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and full bookkeeping functions.
- Demonstrable experience producing accounts to Trial Balance independently.
- Experience preparing financial reports for management and audit purposes.
- Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (Sage, Pastel, SAP, or similar).

- Strong technical accounting ability and analytical skills.
- Excellent accuracy, attention to detail, and organisational discipline.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong MS Office proficiency.
- Strong communication skills, able to engage effectively with suppliers, auditors, and internal teams.
- Ability to manage deadlines, prioritise tasks, and operate effectively under pressure.
- High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
